In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Tai Melendy
Age: 25
From: Brighton

I am running for Massachusetts General Hospital because they gave me the ability to run. I suffered from epilepsy since I was less than a year old, but on January 8, 2013, Massachusetts General Hospital’s chief of neurosurgery rid me of seizures once and for all by removing the source. Now I am running so others can run. I am running so the number one research hospital in the United States can continue their research to find solutions to help those who feel as hopeless as I did.
