Where were you on 9/11? Share your story on Boston.com.

This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, a day that permanently changed the country.

On that morning in 2001, four airplanes, hijacked by members of militant Islamist group al-Qaeda, flew into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon building in Arlington, Va. The fourth plane crashed in an open field in Pennsylvania after passengers and crew attempted to regain control from the hijackers.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed, including 206 victims from Massachusetts, and countless others were personally impacted by the events of that day. 

There will be a number of ceremonies memorializing the victims, survivors, and events of that day both in Boston and around the country.

Many will remember where they were on 9/11 and the impact it has had on their lives since then. 

The consequences of the 9/11 attacks have been at the forefront of public conversation in the last month as the United States ended the war in Afghanistan. The war was started in the wake of the terror attacks and continued for decades. Now, a week after the last American troops officially exited the country, the nation reflects on the events that brought us there to begin with. 

For those who were old enough to remember the attacks, it’s not a day you can soon forget. As we commemorate the 20th anniversary, we want to know what you remember about September 11, 2001. Where were you when you learned that the Twin Towers had been hit? What ran through your mind as the public realized it was not an accident, but an act of terrorism? How did the events change your view of the world?
