If you’ve been following along with Olympics news, you know that this year’s games have been particularly eventful. The games themselves — and whether or not they should even be held this year — was a story in and of itself.
After being postponed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were finally held in Tokyo over the last month. Despite cases also rising in Japan, experts said the Olympics bubble helped to keep the games — and any new COVID-19 infections — separate from the city.
The athletes have also made headlines as a number of them have sparked international conversations about mental health among athletes.
One of this year’s biggest stories out of the games was about gymnast Simone Biles, who stepped away from several competitions after publicly discussing how mental health concerns were impacting her performance. Prior to the games, American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was suspended from the women’s track and field team for marijuana use, which she said she used to help her cope with her mother’s death.
This year’s Olympics have also been a show of great athleticism, with several athletes across competitions beating previous Olympic records. As of Aug. 6, the United States has won 98 medals, including 31 gold.
With so much news coming out of the games, it can be hard to keep track of all the wins and losses. See how well you have followed the big stories coming out of the the Tokyo Olympics by taking the quiz below.
