Age: 51
From: Lake Bluff, Illinois

Why am I running the Boston Marathon on behalf of Miles for Miracles? Two very personal reasons define “my why.” First, I want to continue the legacy of my friend Anthony Moulton, who ran for Boston Children’s Hospital. Anthony, a dear friend of my wife Shawn Gore, passed away on May 21, 2023, after battling cancer. Anthony, Shawn, and I all met while working at AOL in the DC-area with the Interactive Marketing group in the late 90s and early 2000s. His energy and enthusiasm for life and helping others were remarkable. Anthony completed 12 Boston Marathons, raising over $150,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital. Our friendship grew as Shawn and I began to date, eventually getting engaged and married. We both miss him dearly.

Second, I underwent a life-changing chest surgery at age 6 at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (“CHOP”). I had a severe congenital chest deformity called pectus excavatum, also known as a funnel chest or caved-in chest. A titanium bar was inserted into my chest to correct the deformity. The surgeon, Dr. C. Everett Koop, instilled confidence in my mom, dad, and me. Dr. Koop went on to serve as the 13th Surgeon General of the United States. I am forever thankful for children’s hospitals like CHOP and Boston Children’s Hospital for their dedicated focus on children and their families, developing advanced technologies and innovative thinking to help them.

I’m running the Boston Marathon to ensure sick kids receive the best treatment in the world. I’m running Boston Marathon number 13 for Anthony. My fundraising goal is $21,000, symbolizing the 21 total Boston Marathons Anthony completed in his lifetime. I believe $21,000 is the right goal.
