Why I’m running: ‘She will be on my mind every step of the way’
Emily Hodge is running Boston for neuroblastoma research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Emily Hodge
Age: 43
From: Boston
Her name is Malia. She was 14 years old and she battled neuroblastoma not once but twice. She was one of the most courageous, strong, determined, passionate, kind-hearted humans I have ever met. She radiated joy, and inspired so many. No child and no family should go through what Malia and her family went through.
I am running — and more importantly, fundraising — to raise critical funds for neuroblastoma research at Dana-Farber in honor of Malia. She will be on my mind every step of the way.
