Why I’m Running: ‘My journey goes beyond the finish line’

Patrick McSweeney is running for Natick non-profit KidsConnect.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

From: North Conway, N.H.

I am running with great enthusiasm and a sense of purpose as I undertake the incredible challenge of running the Boston Marathon this year. However, my journey goes beyond the finish line. I am fundraising for KidsConnect, a non-profit organization in Natick that is close to my heart.

KidsConnect provides qualified tutors/teachers, many of whom are in the Natick school system, for an after-school program, to children who need extra academic help to ensure that no child is turned away in their educational journey. Witnessing the positive impact that KidsConnect has on these young minds, I am motivated to contribute to their mission.

With recent years of online and hybrid learning, the need for tutoring is greater than ever. Growing up in the Boston area, and also living in Natick, on the marathon course for years, I would always watch the Boston Marathon from the same spot at mile 8. I am excited to have the opportunity this year to run this prestigious race on this respected course.
