In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Brendan Beauregard
Age: 25
From: Medfield
I’m running the 2024 Boston Marathon for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in honor of my brother, Patrick Beauregard, and my close family friend, Mary Piccolo.
Pat was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in September 2017 at the age of just 29 and a month after he got married.
He underwent 40+ rounds of chemotherapy at Dana-Farber and became an advocate in spreading awareness on young-onset colorectal cancer diagnosis.
He unfortunately passed in September 2020 and I am determined to make my big brother proud.
Mary is a family friend of mine who was unfortunately recently diagnosed with uveal melanoma, a rare form of eye cancer.
She is one of the best people around and has meant a lot to my family; from organizing meal trains during both my father’s and brother’s cancer journeys to small things like picking me up from elementary school.
