Sara Collins is running Boston ‘to prove my strength to myself’
"I'll be out there soaking up every high five, cheer, sign, and dog!"
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Sara Collins
Age: 37
From: Framingham
I used to be a big runner. Morning of 2013 I even posted that one day I would be on the start line of the marathon. Life took a turn and running took a pass. In 2022, I got out of a year long abusive (in every sense of the word) relationship. I had completely lost who I was during that time. I joined a gym to prove my strength to myself, mental and physical, and to not let anything like that happen to me again.
Last February, I started running again, struggling through even a mile. But I was able to shut my mind off during my runs. It became part of my healing and growth. I started signing up for races and the marathon became a goal again. I am honored to be running for the Natick Center Cultural District. If you see me crying during the day just know it’s because my healing is working (and probably a bit of suffering) but I’ll be out there soaking up every high five, cheer, sign, and dog!
