Rajhen Ramoutar is running Boston in honor of his niece and late nephew
"I made a promise to him to keep his fight against cancer alive."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Rajhen Ramoutar
Age: 26
From: Hoogwoud, The Netherlands
My twin nephew and niece, Dex and Zoë, battled cancer when they were only seven months old. Sadly, Dex passed away at one-and-a-half years old, so from that day on I made a promise to him to keep his fight against cancer alive. That’s why I run marathons for charities in the Netherlands (I actually hate running).
My little niece Zoë was granted a wish, so I’m running the Boston Marathon for Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island to raise $12,500 dollar to grant another child’s wish. A wish for a wish. This will be my sixth marathon for charity in a year-and-a-half.
