Name: Olivia Canavan
Age: 26
From: Natick

I am running the 2024 Boston Marathon to raise money for the Natick Organic Farm! This April’s Boston Marathon will be my second marathon, and I am excited to be fundraising for such an important organization.

The Natick Organic Farm has year-round programming for adults and children. They offer classes about a myriad of topics, such as maple sugaring and raising chickens. The children’s courses cover farm tasks like planting, caring for animals, and harvesting. The farm also has programming for scouts, field trips for schools, and programs for students who are homeschooled.

Organic farming has a long history in my family; in the 1970s my grandparents, with my mother and her siblings, ran the first commercial organic vegetable farm in upstate New York. I grew up surrounded by farming; raising rabbits and chickens, helping on my grandparents’ vineyard, and working in our family’s community garden plot. I am grateful that I was exposed to these experiences as a child as they have shaped my appreciation for agriculture.

Participating as a charity runner for the farm is a rewarding opportunity. This experience has made me feel more connected to the town of Natick and my community.
