Mike Carey is fulfilling his dream of running the Boston Marathon
"I didn't think I'd have a chance to qualify, but was so honored when I got accepted to run and raise funds for the Boston Fire Department Relief Fund."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Mike Carey
Age: 52
From: East Lansing, Mich.
Ever since I ran my first marathon in 2014, my dream has been to do Boston.
I grew up in Upstate NY, but anyone who knows me, knows I live and die with the Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.
I didn’t think I’d have a chance to qualify, but was so honored when I got accepted to run & raise funds for the Boston Fire Department Relief Fund.
Combine that with my daughter being a senior at Berklee College of Music this year makes the time around the Marathon pretty special for me & my family.
