Mairead Lyons is running Boston for a world without cancer

"I am so incredibly honored to be able to raise money for an institution that supports patients and their families like my sister each and every day of their journey."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Mairead Lyons
Age: 33
From: Boston

My sister, Siobhan Donovan, was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer while she was pregnant with her youngest son.

This incredible organization has provided my sister with the best possible care that is available for almost two years now.

Because of the amazing work done by the medical professionals, researchers, and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Institiute, my sister is here making memories with her three kids and will be standing beside me on my wedding day this fall.

Thanks to science and all of your support, Siobhan and I will both be championing the historic run from Hopkinton to Boylston Street together.

I am so incredibly honored to be able to raise money for an institution that supports patients and their families like my sister each and every day of their journey.

One hundred percent of every dollar that is raised through this fundraiser goes to the Claudia Adam’s Barr Program that funds basic cancer research.

Thank you for all the support and join me in working towards a world without cancer!
