Lauren Corliss is running to help children walk again

"Boston Children’s has helped me not only be able to run and walk again, but they inspired me to go to medical school to help other children like me"

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Lauren Corliss
Age: 22
From: Wayland

I am running the Boston Marathon because 10 years today, I fell playing soccer and fractured my C5 vertebrae. It was later discovered that I had a tumor eroding that vertebrae.

I was initially told that I would never run or walk again, but the medical team at Boston Children’s helped me not only be able to run and walk again, but they inspired me to go on to medical school to help other children like me in the fall.
