In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Kristen Vicino
Age: 40
From: Boston
After completing my first Boston Marathon in 2019, I set a goal to mark my 40th birthday with another race.
Five years later, I’m keeping that promise to myself and am honored to take on this run to support children in at-risk circumstances who receive services from The Home for Little Wanderers.
The Home offers services for the kids who have the most acute need, to give them the ability to focus on their education and developing socio-economic skills, so they can build a future that will set them up for success.
Growing up, I experienced a socio-economically and racially diverse childhood in Wareham, Massachusetts, and my memories of classmates’ financial struggles and how they affected their daily lives, remain vivid to this day.
I am excited to have the opportunity to support and raise awareness for the incredible work this organization does.
