Katie Gauthier is running Boston for Krystle Campbell’s legacy

"Life is short and unpredictable. Running has taught me to keep putting one foot in front of the other and take it one mile at a time."

Katie Gauthier is running the 2024 Boston Marathon.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Katie Gauthier
Age: 25
From: West Boylston

I grew up always viewing running marathons as impossible for me. I started running to prove myself wrong. After completing my first marathon, I started to question what else I have put limitations on in life. I am running for UMass Boston’s Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund.

Krystle tragically lost her life in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Life is short and unpredictable. Running has taught me to keep putting one foot in front of the other and take it one mile at a time. I am running to honor Krystle’s legacy and to remind others that we are much more capable than we give ourselves credit for.

All donations will support academic scholarships that advance students interested in pursuing business degrees at UMass Boston while keeping Krystle’s legacy alive.
