In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Julianna DeBonis
Age: 22
From: Somerville
I’m running the 2024 Boston Marathon for the Greg Hill Foundation to support its mission of helping families struck by tragedy. Growing up, I spent my summers in North Andover, and my family started a charity in honor of my grandmother. The charity helped families in Lawrence experiencing financial difficulties. After seeing how grateful the recipients were for the assistance, it became my priority to give back.
I learned about the Greg Hill Foundation in 2018 after the Merrimack Valley gas explosions and fires. I was impressed and inspired by their focus on helping strangers after they quickly raised $27,000 to help displaced families in the Lawrence area. I am honored and privileged to run in support of this incredible foundation as they continue their work to help those in need.
