John Prindiville is running Boston for his patient partner
"Caroline and her family inspire me and are my 'why' every week when I go out for my long training runs."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: John Prindiville
Age: 45
From: Marblehead
This year I will be running for a cause closer to my heart than expected. Each year members of the MGH Pediatric Cancer Marathon team can opt into the patient partner program. These selected individuals run in honor of someone who is actively getting treated at the Mass General Pediatric Cancer Center.
I have been matched with my daughter’s friend and our neighbor, Caroline Noonan. Caroline is an amazing young woman who is battling Ewing’s Sarcoma. I first got to know Caroline by picking her up from cheer practice with my daughter in the late summer and fall. Caroline is a kind, smart, wonderful girl with a smile that lights up a room.
I’m asking for everyone who reads this post to contribute to help patients like Caroline and her incredible family as they persevere in the most challenging circumstances. Caroline and her family inspire me and are my “why” every week when I go out for my long training runs. I look forward to passing Caroline and our families at Mile 20 and giving her parents my bib, which will feature her name, at the end of the race.
