James Casady is running to raise money for cancer research

"My hope is that with continued funding for research, a cure may be found for not only blood cancers, but for all types of cancer that afflict people today."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: James Casady
Age: 50
From: Hopkinton

I am running the Boston Marathon this year to raise money for cancer research at Dana-Farber.

In 2020 I was diagnosed with High Risk Smoldering Multiple Myeloma.

I participated in a two year trial from 2021-2023 which brought my cancer numbers very low, but did not completely rid me of this blood cancer.

I was able to go off of chemotherapy though and can remain off until my numbers go back up again.

Dana-Farber has helped and continues to help so many people.

My hope is that with continued funding for research, a cure may be found for not only blood cancers, but for all types of cancer that afflict people today.
