I have been given the honor of participating in the 128th running of the Boston Marathon for The Dion Foundation. The Dion Foundation was founded in 2023 by the Dion Family after learning two of their children were diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, type 2C. This is considered one of the most severe forms of childhood onset of muscular dystrophy and consists of weakness of muscles of arms and legs, leading to difficulties with running and walking. Currently there are no treatments for this disease.
The mission of the Dion Foundation is to increase awareness of rare and ultra-rare genetic diseases such as Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, that affect children with the intention of allocating funds for research and development of potential treatments and cures of these devastating diseases. I have been reminded how it is truly a gift to be able to run when there are those who can’t. So this year, I am running Boston for those who can’t all the while spreading awareness for Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy.
