Boston Marathon

For Fadi Kanaan, Boston ‘really is the best race on the planet’

Kanaan first ran Boston in 2013 and has returned every year since.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Fadi Kanaan
Age: 43
From: Boston

When I started training for and running my first Boston in 2013, I never imagined I would still be at it in 2024, but the end of that 2013 race changed everything. The two terrorist bombs at the hallowed finish line compelled me to return the next year, the year after that, and every year since 2013.

This was, and continues to be, my small way of celebrating the return of peace and order to my adopted city, my home away from home. The Boston Marathon really is the best race on the planet, and so I keep taking the bus back to Hopkinton.

This year I am delighted to be running for MGH Pediatric Cancer. I like to think I am helping make life a little less unfair to folks who have to suffer unreasonably.
