"Thanks to the support from BCH, [my son] Dax is living life to the fullest!"
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Evan Hall
Age: 35
From: York, Maine
Until recently, I never considered myself much of a runner. The extent of my running experience had been limited to the occasional one or two mile run. However, as 2023 drew to a close and my 35th birthday approached in January, I knew that I wanted to challenge myself with something both physically and mentally demanding, something that would push me beyond my comfort zone. I immediately thought of running a marathon. I quickly realized I was going to need to apply to join a team and couldn’t think of a better team than one that would support a cause so close to me.
I was fortunate enough to get a spot on the 2024 Boston Marathon with the Miles for Miracles team at Boston Children’s Hospital! BCH has a special place in my heart as my son Dax is treated regularly at BCH. Dax was born with a rare genetic condition called Glycogen Storage Disease 1a. This disease affects the way Dax’s liver stores and uses glycogen as a form of energy. My wife Kristina and I have to feed Dax through a G-Tube every 2.5 hours to ensure he doesn’t become hypoglycemic. Even one missed dose of cornstarch and formula can be life-threatening. Thanks to the support from BCH, Dax is living life to the fullest!
