Daniel Sentana is running Boston for ‘the real heroes’

"We were especially inspired by their critical role aiding runners and bystanders after the 2013 Marathon, at a time when our city needed it most."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Daniel Sentana
Age: 31
From: Dedham

My wife Jennifer and I are running the 2024 Boston Marathon under Spaulding Rehabilitation. We are thrilled to run our first marathon to celebrate our first year of marriage!

We are even more excited to have been selected by Spaulding and represent their exceptional mission to help people heal and recover from injury and illness.

On a personal level, I am a physician that takes care of patients with cancer who often need rehabilitation after complications from their disease or treatment.

Many patients specifically request (and have benefited from) Spaulding due to its well-deserved reputation as an outstanding multidisciplinary facility that plays a tremendous role in the recovery of my patients.

Moreover, we were especially inspired by their critical role aiding runners and bystanders after the 2013 Marathon, at a time when our city needed it most.

We wanted to fundraise to increase awareness of the real heroes that face immense health challenges and have the will and courage to participate in significant rehabilitation to get back up on their feet.
