Dan Fecteau is running Boston in honor of his late sister
"I have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this. I’m proud of myself and I hope I’m making her proud."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Dan Fecteau
Age: 42
From: South Dennis
I am running the 2024 Boston Marathon to honor my sister, Mary, who passed away in November of 2022 from complications of Crohn’s Disease. Mary was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 1985 and spent several weeks at Boston Children’s Hospital.
I’m raising money for Children’s so that families of sick kids can receive the same top tier treatment that my family received. Her passing was completely devastating and left us feeling helpless. While we still feel the sting of loss, it didn’t take long to realize that this was the perfect way to honor her memory.
This will be my first ever marathon and I expect it to be one of the most memorable and therapeutic experiences of my life. While I would give anything to have her back, I have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this. I’m proud of myself and I hope I’m making her proud.
