Nick Vignone is running the 2024 Boston Marathon for Mass Mentoring Partnership.
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Nick Vignone
Age: 35
From: Charlestown
At the time of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, I was living in Brighton. I remember how the city felt during those dark days—and the incredible spirit of everyone rallying together in what was such a devastating time. It was strange to think how a tragedy brought the city together, but it showed the true character of Boston and its people — something I’ll never forget. I grew up surrounded by a community of mentors. From coaches to bosses and family members, I wouldn’t be in the position I am now without their support and guidance.
In 2023, I became a father to twins, which has only strengthened my beliefs about the importance of positive mentorship in a child’s life. For that reason, I’m running for Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) — an organization I’ve supported and worked alongside for 13 years with my employer, ALKU. I run for my twins, Mia and Vinny, who have inspired me to continue setting big goals and prove that no matter how hectic life gets, I can always try new things and push myself.
I run for my wife Lindsay, who already has a Boston Marathon under her belt! She has been my support system throughout this entire training process, even picking up extra shifts to allow me to get in those critical long runs. Growing up in Massachusetts and living in Boston for 13 years, I’ve always wanted to run the Boston Marathon and to be part of the infectious energy that washes over the city around the time of the race. This year, I will.
