Kevin Hayden is running the 2024 Boston Marathon.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Kevin Hayden
Age: 45
From: North Easton

This will be my first time running the Boston Marathon. I’m running with Team Samaritans. Samaritans is a Massachusetts non-profit that provides life-saving services for people struggling with their mental health and experiencing suicidal thoughts.

This cause is extremely important to me as I’m a mental health provider, and I’ve worked with people over the years that have felt hopeless and that there was no way out. There is hope — with the right support, access to mental health treatment, and a more accepting culture around mental health issues, those who are struggling can get the help they need.

I am running to raise awareness for mental health and suicide. By raising awareness and shining the light on this important issue, I hope to break the stigma and allow people to get the help that they need. Samaritans provides a much needed service for people in need, and I’m proud to be part of this important cause.
