Elvin Adames is running the 2024 Boston Marathon.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Elvin Adames
Age: 33
From: Yonkers, N.Y.

The Boston Marathon is the biggest race of my life. It will be my sixth and final star of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. I will be one of the first 50 Dominicans to achieve this honor. I grew up overweight in a community full of fast food and bad influences in NYC. I lost almost 40 pounds and ran the NYC Marathon in 2018 and it changed my life. I felt better, looked better and lived a much healthier lifestyle.

I wanted to share that power with others and started the award winning Dyckman Run Club in 2019 and, to date, we have inspired hundreds of marathoners and reached over 300 members. I seek to inspire everyone to achieve their maximum potential through the power of running.

The Boston Marathon will cap what has been a six-year journey that included the London, Berlin, Chicago, NYC and Tokyo Marathons. My motto is, there is only one way!
