Boston Marathon 2024: Runners share what they’ll do after the race
“I think I'm gonna pour a Sam Adams on my head.”
When Boston Marathon runners cross the finish line in Copley, they are sure to feel a swell of emotions: excitement, pride, and gratitude, among others. They’re also likely to feel hungry – or hangry – thirsty, exhausted, and really, really sore. After all, running 26.2 miles is not for the faint of heart.
For some marathoners, their ideal post-race activity might involve scarfing down food at the nearest restaurant they can find. Others might opt for a cold beer or a nap after their run. And some will keep the excitement going by cheering on fellow friends as they finish the marathon. Each runner is different, and lucky for them, there is no shortage of post-race activities to choose from in Boston.
We asked Boston Marathon finishers how they plan to spend their time after the race. Read on to see what’s first on their list.

“[The first thing I’ll do is] lay down, eat a lot, and contemplate never running again (I might change my mind, just so you know.) [I’m going for] unhealthy foods, primarily. Things that make you run slower. Things that clog your arteries.”
-Scott Gammon
“I think we’re gonna go grab a burger and a beer and relax. A lot of celebrating. I think we’re gonna find a patio, then we’re gonna have some beers at the hotel, then there’s the post-race party. And then we’re gonna do probably a few clubs. We’re gonna make our way around town.”
-Larbi Benhabib

“I’m gonna party in the city of Boston. I think I’m gonna pour a Sam Adams on my head. I poured a Maurten on my head by accident. It’s gelatinous, it’s like a gel. I thought it was water, and I ended up dumping it on my head, but it’s like syrup, essentially. But you know anything goes.”
-Stefanie Corgel
“I am going to meet my parents. I’m probably gonna have a drink. And I’m gonna go out to dinner. Relax. And I’m taking the day off tomorrow from work.”
-Emma Wilson

“Probably have a beer. I’ll meet some people over in Cambridge and go home, shower, and sit around – I’ll do a lot of sitting, not a lot of moving. Hopefully my wife shows up to pick me up but we’ll see. I think we’re meeting at Miracle of Science Bar and Grill. I haven’t been there in a long time, so it’ll be fun.”
-Daniel Biales
“Probably go get a burger or a Boston beer, something to celebrate. Maybe take a hot shower.”
-Hannah Guerard

“I live in Vancouver, Canada, so I’m going to run the Vancouver Marathon the first weekend of May. And then from there, I will start training because I run ultra marathons too. Now, I’m just going to find my girlfriend. We will go back to the hotel, and then shower, relax, eat, and get ready for a run tomorrow.”
-Peter Mpala
“I am going to very slowly walk back to my hotel, and then sit with my feet up, and call my family.”
-Simon Hill
“We’re going to celebrate the town for a couple of days, so probably go on a swan boat ride and a Boston Harbor cruise and walk the Freedom Trail.”
-Garrett Cazier

“We’re gonna go watch “Bridesmaids” and just lay on the couch. Erica bought a NormaTec [a compression device that massages your limbs] yesterday.”
-Madison Overby
“‘Bridesmaids,’ relax, get a good lunch and dinner. Some Thai food, maybe.”
-Erica Eades
“I’m gonna shower, eat, and then I’m going to the mile 27 post race party, and take some time off from running.”
-Lauren Flament
“A lot of my friends are coming to celebrate, then I’m actually going to meet with my wife and we’re driving to the Grand Canyon. It will take two and a half days so we’ll get there by Thursday.”
-Bofei Cao
