‘It’s a family affair!’: Mother and son are running Boston in support of a loved one with colon cancer

Karen and Brian Scott are raising money for innovative research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Brian Scott, left, is running the Boston Marathon with his mother in support of his father, David, center. His brother, Adam, right, ran the marathon last year.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Karen and Brian Scott
Age: 52 and 22
From: Groton

My son, Brian, and I are running the Boston Marathon in April in support of David Scott and the Dana Farber Cancer Center.

Why I'm Running

My other son, Adam, ran the Boston Marathon for Dana Farber in 2022. It’s a family affair!

My husband, Dave, and I travel to Dana Farber every other Wednesday for palliative chemotherapy for stage 4 colon cancer, so we’ve experienced firsthand the dedicated professionals that work there and the superior treatment they give each patient.
