Benjamin Gordon is running to support Boston Children’s Hospital

"We spent six months desperately seeking answers, and we thought Mia would never be able to get rid of her crutches. Boston Children's Hospital provided a solution."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Benjamin Gordon
Age: 50
From: Palm Beach, Fla.

Five years ago, my nine-year-old daughter Mia broke her foot while running.

The fracture healed, but she developed a rare disease called CRPS which causes extreme sensitivity to pain.

We spent six months desperately seeking answers, and we thought Mia would never be able to get rid of her crutches.

Boston Children’s Hospital provided a solution. It was miraculous to us.

That’s why I decided to run the Boston Marathon.

It’s poetic justice that CRPS knocked Mia off her feet, Boston Children’s restored her abilities, and now at age 50, I am running my second ever marathon, so that other children will gain access to these life-changing medical resources.
