Name: Sophie Goad
Age: 27
From: Burbank, California

I am incredibly excited to be running the 130th Boston Marathon this April with the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team for the second year in a row. My experience last year raising funds in honor of my mom, running the marathon, and being part of such a meaningful organization deeply inspired me to return.

In March 2024, my mother was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer: clear cell odontogenic carcinoma of the left mandible. She endured intense surgery and radiation treatment with remarkable strength and grace. I am grateful to share that her recent scans show she is cancer-free. Watching her navigate life as a cancer survivor continues to inspire me every day.

My mom is the reason I run with DFMC and the motivation behind my commitment to raising funds for cancer research. I run with the hope that continued research will lead us closer to a cancer-free world where no one has to endure this disease.

One hundred percent of funds raised through DFMC directly benefit the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This program supports scientists whose discoveries are transforming cancer treatment and improving survival rates and quality of life for patients worldwide. Funding basic research like this is more important than ever.

This year, my personal fundraising goal is $15,124 – $1 more than I raised last year – contributing to our team’s $8.75 million goal. I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Please visit my fundraising page to learn more and donate, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions, ideas, or to see how else you might be able to help get involved. Let’s defy cancer together!
