Running has become more than a sport for me — it is a way to give back to the community and support people who are facing challenges that many of us often take for granted.
I am running to help people with visual impairments have the chance to see again and live their daily lives with independence and dignity.
This cause is deeply personal to me. I have pterygium in both of my eyes, a condition that can affect vision if left untreated. I have already undergone surgery in one eye, and I will have surgery on the second eye after the Boston Marathon.
I am very fortunate that my workplace is supporting me by covering the cost of my surgery. But this experience made me realize how many people out there need the same treatment but simply cannot afford it. For many families, eye surgery is expensive and out of reach, even though it can restore their vision and change their lives.
That is why I run.
Every step I take represents hope for someone who deserves the chance to see clearly again. My small effort may not change the whole world, but I believe even small steps can create a meaningful impact.
