This week, used vehicle retailer CarMax is expected to expand its presence in the Greater Boston market with two new store locations in Danvers and Norwood.

CarMax currently has a store located in North Attleboro, which is considered part of the Providence market.

Both the Danvers store (located at 161 Andover Street) and the Norwood store (located at 1230 Boston Providence Turnpike) are scheduled to open on December 10.

A third Boston-area location is scheduled to open in Westborough by next summer.

CarMax first opened in 1993 and boasts that it offers used-car consumers a “fun and easy’’ car-buying experience. Today, the company has over 145 stores nationwide and offers an inventory of more than 50,000 vehicles, free vehicle history reports, and promises to put each vehicle through a 125+ point inspection.

The prices of the cars offered at CarMax stores are fixed so customers do not have to haggle or negotiate prices.

CarMax also offers customers a “5-Day Money Back Guarantee’’ that allows consumers to return a vehicle within five days. The company offers Massachusetts consumers a 90-day limited warranty.

In a statement, CarMax CEO and Boston native Tom Folliard said he is “thrilled’’ to be opening new locations in his hometown.

“We take pride in being a part of the Boston community and are looking forward to providing customers with a seamless car buying experience that is transparent and without the hassle of traditional dealers,’’ said Folliard.

CarMax also offers to buy cars from consumers who are looking to sell their own vehicles even if the owner is not looking to buy another car.

“We offer a different experience when buying a used car,’’ said Brian Rodrique, general manager of the Norwood location, in a phone interview. “The first thing I tell people is we have a huge selection on our lots.’’

The Norwood and Danvers store locations will each stock between 200 and 400 vehicles.

At the stores, shoppers can search the company’s nationwide stock and add their names to a digital queue on large touchscreen displays. The stores also have a “kids corner’’ which allow shoppers with young children to let their kids play nearby while they fill out the necessary paperwork.

Rodrique also points out that CarMax staff members are paid a fixed rate, not a commission, so they are not motivated to sell some vehicles over others.

“Their interest is to the right car for you, not the car they want to move,’’ said Rodrique.
