For consumers who want to help the U.S. economy, help them environment and save some money at the gas pump, there are some vehicles that rise above the rest of the crop.

Earlier this month, American University’s Kogod School of Business released the latest edition of the Kogod Made in America Auto Index, which offers consumers an analysis of how much their vehicle contributes to the health of the U.S. economy.

The index considers where a vehicle’s parts come from, the nation where the assembly labor takes place, the location of the automaker’s research and development apparatus, and the country where the automaker’s corporate headquarters is located.

Based on these metrics, the index assigns hundreds of vehicles a score between 1 and 100 percent that determines how much U.S. “domestic content’’ a vehicle contains.

Boston.com reviewed the vehicles with the best gas mileage listed on FuelEconomy.gov and cross-checked them against the Kogod Made in American Auto Index to determine which vehicles have the highest percentage of domestic content and the greatest fuel economy.

Based on our findings, here are the seven vehicles worth looking into. All vehicles listed below are 2016 model year vehicles and are arranged from lowest domestic content to highest.
