‘WardsAuto’ names the 10 best interior winners

For these 10 vehicles, what’s on the inside sets them apart.

WardsAuto magazine named the winners of its annual 10 Best Interiors list. Half of the winning vehicles fall into the luxury vehicle category, but WardsAuto argues that all of the winners could be considered luxury for their use of upscale materials, high-end technology, comfort and attractive interior designs.

“It’s important that the Wards 10 Best Interiors list include mainstream, affordable vehicles,’’ said Drew Winter, director of content at WardsAuto. “But the average price of a new vehicle in the U.S. has risen past $33,000, which is forcing us to reconsider how we define mainstream, affordable vehicles.’’

In order to be eligible for the award this year, the vehicle’s interior must be all-new or have undergone a significant redesign. Vehicles were evaluated based on aesthetics, attention to design, materials, safety, ergonomics and comfort.

Editors for the magazine evaluated the interiors of 47 contenders,19 of which were luxury models. Five Audi vehicles were eligible for the award this year. Both BMW and Lexus had three entries each.

Wards editors were impressed with several non-luxury vehicles this year: the Honda Civic, Chevrolet Camaro, Nissan Maxima and the Chrysler Pacifica. These vehicles offered attractive interiors that were on par with premium brand cars.

Awards will be presented to the winners at the WardsAuto Interiors Conference in Detroit on May 11.
