This town’s police pulled over 110 people for texting and driving in 4 hours yesterday

During a four-hour span, police in West Bridgewater pulled over 110 people on Wednesday for texting and driving.

According to The Boston Globe, citations were issued to 52 drivers. The remaining 58 drivers were released with no penalties.

This is the eighth “texting operation’’ that West Bridgewater police have performed.

The department has issued 550 violations for texting and driving since January 2013.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a month-long effort to educate motorists about the dangers of distracted driving behavior such as texting behind the wheel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration distracted driving was responsible for 3,129 vehicle fatalities in 2014.

The Globe reports police pulled over one driver for texting and driving on two separate occasions today.
