This week, online automotive marketplace TrueCar recognized more than two dozen vehicles for offering consumers an impressive resale value in the company’s first annual Pre-Owned Value Awards.

The awards highlight model year 2014 vehicles in 27 different segments that are available for resale in 2016. Winners were the vehicles that were expected to retain the greatest percentage of their value over the next three years.

Jim Nguyen, TrueCar’s executive vice president, said the range of winners indicates that automakers are working harder to help preserve their vehicle’s value.

“For potential used car buyers, unlocking value is an important part of the purchase consideration,’’ said Nguyen in a statement. “As Certified Pre-Owned programs expand, consumers will benefit from the improved quality and reliability offered as a result of these refinements.’’

Toyota was the big winner among mainstream brands with seven awards among car, truck and utility categories. The now discontinued Toyota FJ Cruiser was named the best off-road utility vehicle.

The winners were recognized at the New York International Auto Show that kicked off this week.
