This week, U.S. News and World Report released the winners of its Best Cars for the Money awards. The awards were given to 23 vehicles in different automotive classes and are aimed at educating consumers about which vehicles provide the most value for per dollar spent.

It was a very good year for Honda. The Japanese automaker won six awards, the most awards collected by a single brand in the past five years, according to U.S. News. Honda’s luxury brand Acura took another two prizes.

The Honda Fit had a double win, taking the top prize in both the Best Subcompact and Best Hatchback categories.

“Honda continues to impress reviewers with the quality and design of nearly all of their products,’’ said Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor of U.S. News Best Cars, in a statement. “No matter what kind of car someone is looking for, a Honda is almost always a good choice.’’

Toyota and Chevrolet also had reason to celebrate the rankings. Both brands took three awards each.

The Lincoln MKX was named the Best 2-Row Luxury SUV for the Money. The MKX’s win in this category derailed the Lexus RX’s seven-year winning streak.

To compile its list, U.S. News reviewed a combination of quality and value data. To measure quality, the magazine considered a vehicle’s safety and reliability rankings based on expert reviews. Value was measured based on a five-year estimate of a vehicle’s cost of ownership, provided by Vincentric, and the average prices consumers paid for the vehicle at the time the awards were published, based on estimates from TrueCar.com.
