Trucks, SUVs and crossovers to look for at the New England Auto Show

The current Jeep Cherokee began its lineage in the 2014 models year when the crossover SUV trend was really starting to gather steam. The 2016 model ranges in price from $23,396 to over $30,000 for the Trailhawk version, which boasts of its off-road capabilities. All models are rated at about 31 miles per gallon highway.

The Cadillac Escalade was heavily overhauled in 2015, leaving the 2016 model to add a few nice touches, like a newer infotainment system and available lane departure intervention for safety. As usual, the price tags are anxiety-provoking, with the standard version starting at $73,965 and the ESV Platinum model coming in at $93,345. The model shown above would run you almost $92,000.

The 2016 Volvo XC90 has been making waves for months since it was first introduced. It’s the first big overhaul of the model in more than 10 years and boy was it worth the wait, according to our reviewers. The XC90 considers itself a luxury crossover SUV, but compared to the aforementioned Escalade, it’s both understated and affordable. Starting MSRP is $49,800.

The 2016 Ford Escape is another entrant in the crowded crossover SUV and/or small SUV category. The Escape, starting at $23,100, seems aimed at young city dwellers looking to get out and have fun adventures (two word that make repeated appearances in marketing materials) on the weekends. All options get about 25 or 26 combined mpg.

The BMW X1 has a new look and platform for 2016, just a few years after the original version debuted in the U.S. The only engine available is a four-cylinder with 228 horsepower. The new crossover has more space for baggage and back passengers than its predecessor. Prices start at $36,345.

The 2016 Audi Q7, coming off a major redesign, lands at the high end of the crossover SUV segment. The most basic trim (which happens to be named “Premium’’) will run you at least $54,800, while the Prestige version starts at $64,300. But the car you get will be packed with safety and entertainment technology, will get 333 horsepower and will hold seven people.

The 2016 Fiat 500X brings the Italian carmaker to the U.S. crossover market for the first time. Staying true to Fiat’s playful ethos, the colorful 500X starts at just $20,000 with the 160 horsepower Pop that offers 34 mpg highway. The four more expensive versions offer 180 horsepower and 31 mpg highway. They top out at a $28,210 base price.

In a league with the 500x, the Mazda CX-3 starts at just $19,960 with a 146 horsepower engine. The CX-3 is another recent entrant into the subcompact crossover segment, and one of the best, according to Car and Driver. Mazda offers an intelligent all-wheel drive system that will bump up the cost a few thousand dollars. And the most expensive model, the Grand Touring, comes with seven speakers and leather-trimmed seats.

The Porsche Cayenne comes in an array of options, starting with a $58,300 base model that gets 300 horsepower and ending with the $157,300 Turbo S and its whopping 570 horsepower. Somewhere in the middle is the intriguing S E-Hybrid, pictured here. At $77,200 it gets a combined 416 horsepower from its gas and electric engines and offers 47 mpg, nearly double the fuel efficiency of its family members.

Nissan has finally revamped its Titan pickup truck after first debuting it in 2003. The 2016 model is entirely built and tested in the U.S. The XD version, pictured here, will be released first at $40,290. It gets 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque from a V8 Turbo Diesel engine. A regular version of the pickup, which falls more firmly in the “light truck’’ category, will be released later.

The 2016 Ram 1500 comes in a dizzying array of options, from the $26,145 Tradesman, with 5,160 lbs. of towing capacity, to the $52,320 Limited, with 8,330 lbs. of towing capacity. The available EcoDiesel V6 engine claims the best fuel economy of any full-sized pickup.

The Ford F-150 was redesigned in 2015 with an aluminum alloy body that allowed it to shed 700 pounds. In 2016, the F-150 is focusing on what’s on the inside. A new “Limited’’ edition of the truck is packed with screens and a giant sunroof. It will also run you at least $58,770. The truck pictured is a Platinum trim, which starts at $52,401. The most basic 2016 model starts at $25,428 and gets 25 miles per gallon highway.

The Ford F-250 Super Duty, starting at $32,385, is the entryway into the Super Duty family of trucks that is capped off by a $71,320 F-450 Platinum. The whole family is made for serious work and even the F-250 has an impressive 385 horsepower.
