What car brands do Americans trust most?
Reader’s Digest just announced its list of the brands Americans consider the most trustworthy, including among both domestic and foreign carmakers.
The Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Survey asked over 4,500 participants about their favorite consumer brands, from airlines to toothpaste to credit cards to shampoo.
Two major car manufacturers were named among the Reader’s Digest most trusted brands. Ford took top honors for most trusted domestic car brand, while readers named Toyota the most trusted automotive import.
Trust can go a long way when making purchases, which could give Toyota and Ford an edge with consumers. According to the Trusted Brand Survey, 79 percent of respondents said they would choose a “trusted’’ brand over another brand of similar price and quality.

Additionally, 75 percent of respondents say it’s important to trust the companies they support. More than 40 percent said knowing a company had received the Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brand seal would “likely’’ make a difference on whether or not they buy a product or service.

Meanwhile, the J.D. Power had different results for Toyota and Ford in its Vehicle Dependability study, which came out earlier this year. See how Ford, Toyota and other brands fared in terms of vehicle dependability.
