‘National Drive Electric Week’ in Boston showcases expanding EV movement
This week is National Drive Electric Week, and what better way to learn more about an expanding new technology than going to the site of the oldest car collection in the country, which happens to be in Brookline?
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum puts on car shows on its lawn throughout the summer, featuring vehicles from around the world. On Saturday, September 19 from 8:30 to 10:30 am, the museum will be featuring only electric vehicles in recognition of National Drive Electric Week.
There will be cars that have been turned from gas to electric, an electric race car from MIT, cars from companies like Zero Motorcycles and Tesla, and even examples from previous generations of electric vehicles that are no longer in production.

The local event comes as electric vehicles begin to make a dent in the mainstream market.
This week, Audi announced a concept for an electric SUV and Porsche announced their concept for an electric sports car.
And there’s good reason carmakers are expanding their electric offerings. According to an analysis by NerdWallet, done in honor of National Drive Electric Week, for Boston drivers owning the electric Nissan Leaf is cheaper over a five-year period than owning the gas-powered Toyota Camry or the hybrid Toyota Prius, taking into account the initial price, tax credits for electric cars, and yearly cost of ownership.
