A recent study by the car listings website CarGurus indicates that Bostonians aren’t very patriotic, at least when it comes to their choice in car purchases. The report detailed which U.S. cities shop for the most American, Asian, and European brand cars and ranked Boston near the top of the list for Asian cars.

The study showed that 43.1 percent of Boston shoppers buy Asian-brand cars, like Toyota, Honda and Kia. The only city ranked higher was San Jose, with 43.7 percent.

Boston didn’t appear anywhere among the top five cities buying American- or European-brand cars.

Maybe not surprisingly, Detroit, Michigan had the highest interest in American-brand cars.

CarGurus said the study showed a mix of different preferences, but “there were clear trends: American brands do best in the Heartland, while imports get more traction in coastal regions.’’
