Tesla’s newest generation of electric vehicle will include both a sedan and a crossover utility vehicle, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Tesla Motors Chief Technology Officer JB Straubel said the company’s new ‘Model 3’ venture will include a sedan and a crossover. Straubel was speaking an energy conference in Washington, D.C.

The Model S is currently the only sedan in Tesla’s portfolio. The company plans to debut another full-size crossover vehicle, the Model X, later this year. WSJ reports the Model 3 will be released in 2017 and will be priced at about $35,000 with a battery range of 200 miles.

Straubel believes these new Tesla models will help expand Tesla’s sales.

From WSJ:

“Conservatively, there is a market for at least a half million for these types of vehicle annually,’’ [Straubel] said.

Tesla has sold roughly 60,000 vehicles since it was founded in 2003. Tesla’s Model S has a very impressive “Insane’’ mode and was recently put to the test on a trip up Mt. Washington.
