Lights Are On, But Car Won’t Start
Q. I was with a friend in her 2012 Volkswagen EOS. When she tried to start it, the car wouldn’t turn over but the windows went up and down and all the lights on the dash flashed. After a few tries, she turned the steering wheel and the car started. She said this has happened a few times. She’s had the car about 6 months, could this be related to the steering?
A. Anything is possible but I would be looking more towards the neutral safety (range) switch. This switch prevents the car from starting when it is in gear. Next time the car doesn’t start try turning the key to the on position then moving the shifter through the gears and back into park. If the car starts have the dealer look at the neutral safety switch.
