Traffic Ahead: Fenway In For a Tight Squeeze
Starting September 29, motorists who use the Bowker Overpass in the Fenway are in for a headache. Due to an upgrade of the “structural capacity of the existing bridge deck,’’ MassDOT will reduce the number of inbound lanes towards the Fenway, Boylston Street, and Longwood Medical area to two. Outbound lanes towards Storrow Drive will be reduced to one. The Storrow Drive eastbound offramp to the Bowker Overpass will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until October 3.
MassDOT also says Beacon Street and Commonwealth Avenue will experience daily lane closures between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Storrow Drive off-ramp to Charlesgate West will be reduced to a single 10-foot lane from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If you’ve taken the Anderson Bridge to or from Harvard Square lately, you already know construction there is well underway, with only one lane of traffic open in both directions. MassDOT announced more restrictions starting today due to changes to bridge arches. The good news? These restrictions will only affect those who are traveling by water.
Lane restrictions due to construction on the Prudential tunnel continue to cause backups on the Pike, notably at the Allston-Brighton tolls.
