Boston Traffic Ahead: Week of Sept. 22-26
Drivers who take the Mass. Pike can expect the roughly the same level of congestion they have experienced for the past few weeks due to construction on the Commonwealth Avenue bridge. The project has shifted lanes in both the Eastbound and Westbound lanes causing a very sluggish morning and evening commute, especially by the Allston-Brighton tolls.
Meanwhile, MassDOT is planning work on the Witthier Bridge on I-95 in Newburyport and Amesbury as part of the agency’s “Accelerated Bridge Program’’ starting Sept. 22. The project will replace the current six-lane bridge with an eight-lane bridge. According to MassDOT’s website, lane closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Drivers should expect some kind of delay.
