Scenes from the Detroit Auto Show

The 2014 North American International Auto Show kicked off this week in Detroit with hundreds of vehicles on display. Check out some of the cars that made their debut in the Motor City. Also, don’t forget to plan your visit to the 2014 New England International Auto Show at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center which opens to the public on Jan. 16.

Cadillac ATS

The new Cadillac ATS Coupe was introduced at the show at the Cobo Center. The upgraded Cadillac is equipped with a standard 2.0-liter turbo engine that GM says will deliver almost 14 percent more torque. It can also go from zero to 60 in 5.6 seconds.

Chevrolet Corvette ZO6

The new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6, a new version of the Corvette Stingray, debuted at the North American International Auto Show. With a slick aluminum frame, the classic car’s design pays homage its racing heritage with a powerful 625 horsepower supercharged V8 engine. With a new 6.2-liter engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Corvete ZO6 is one of the fastest cars General Motors has ever produced.

Chrysler 200

The 2015 Chrysler 200 also made its debut in Detroit. Immediately, it was seen as a fierce departure from its drab predecessor, the Sebring/200. The 2015 Chrysler 200 features an updated, curvy design that draws comparisons to the Ford Focus or the Hyundai Elantra.

Volkswagen Golf R

The Volkswagen Golf gets some oomph from a 290 horsepower, 2.0-liter engine, and all-wheel drive. It promises to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.9 seconds in the automatic transmission version. The Golf R also boasts improved fuel economy. Volkswagen estimates the Golf R will get around 31 miles per gallon with six-speed manual transmission, up from 27 miles per gallon.

Mercedes-Benz S600

The Mercedes-Benz S600 is getting an upgrade with a 12-cylinder, 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that gets 523 horsepower. On the inside, the car features touchpad controls that can read handwriting in nine languages.

Porsche 911 Targa

Porsche unveiled the Targa 4 and the Targa 4S in the Motor City. The new models feature a roof bar, a wraparound rear window, and a movable front roof section. With the push of a button, the roof opens and closes and folds neatly behind the rear seat. The Targa 4 goes from zero to 60 in 4.6 seconds.

Ford F-150

The new, lighter Ford F-150 was one of the most anticipated vehicles of the North American International Auto Show. Unlike its predecessors, the 2015 Ford F-150 was built almost entirely out of aluminum, which allowed it to decrease its weight by 800 pounds. This significant weight reduction is expected to reduce the F-150’s fuel economy by 5 miles per gallon compared to current truck models.

BMW 2 Series

BMW unveiled the 2 Series Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show. The two-door, four seat, rear-wheel drive 2 Series Coupe is the replacement for BMW’s 1 Series Coupe. The 228i version features a 240 horsepower, 2.0-liter V4 engine and will be priced at $33,025. Meanwhile, the M234i version (pictured) features a 322 horsepower, 3.0-liter V6 engine, and will be listed at $44,025.

GMC Canyon

The 2015 GMC Canyon is GM’s new midsize pickup truck. The Canyon has a new four- and six-cylinder engine a design that resembles GM’s full-size pickups. GM plans to offer the Canyon with a diesel engine by late next year.

Toyota FT-1

Talk about a dream car. The Toyota FT-1 was designed for the Sony PlayStation video game Gran Turismo, so don’t hold your breath if you’re hoping to park one in your driveway. Toyota says the FT-1 will be available as a downloadable vehicle for Playstation 3 Gran Turismo 6.
