Car gadgets, upgrades at CES 2013

At this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show, automakers presented the latest technology to make cars “smarter,’’ safer, and more efficient.

Velodyne LiDar

A monitor by Velodyne LiDar showed the 3D image made by a 360-degree laser scanning device.

Earthquake Sound

Consumers looked at a display of Earthquake speakers at the Consumer Electronics Show. The speakers are available for car, home, and gaming audio systems.

Qualcomm Halo

Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs talked briefly about Qualcomm Halo technology, which would wirelessly charge the Rolls Royce 102EX experimental electric vehicle.

Chevrolet Spark car

This is the interior display of the link menu screen in the electric Spark car, the first car in the industry to feature Sirius integration for voice commands. The car is to be out the first quarter of this year.

Audi hybrid racing car

Consumers viewed the Audi R18 e-tron quattro hybrid racing car and first hybrid to win the LeMans race in 2012.

Audi Matrix LED highbeam

German engineer Reiner Lendle, who helped design the Audi Matrix LED highbeam technology, used a flashlight to demonstrate its use. The sensors read oncoming vehicles headlights and automatically adjusts the cars beams.

Self-driving car

Toyota presented a Lexus Integrated Safety experimental self-driving car.

Pioneer sound system

Consumers looked at a 2012 Lexus CT 200h equipped with a Pioneer sound system built by Five Axis.

Connected Car app

The Delphi Connected Car app plugs into a car’s OBD II port and connects to the cellular data network to allow remote viewing of where the car is, how fast it’s going and remote start and unlock capability.

Liquid Imaging

Liquid Imaging will offer miniature filming devices for the active crowd, including bikers, car racers, and scuba divers.
