Boston Magazine writer Madeline Bilis is like everyone in Boston, in that she’s never parked a car in Harvard Yard. Because it’s impossible, not to mention infuriating when asked from tourists and out-of-towners.

When she took a cross-country road trip with Massachusetts license plates, she learned how the rest of the country looks at Bay Staters, and spent way too much time performing an accent.

“Regular folks across America didn’t want to talk about Massachusetts per se,’’ Bilis said of her experience on her recent trek, “but rather, about what a cartoon version of a Bostonian might be interested in.’’

What do people think Massachusetts residents are interested in? Well, Tom Brady for starters, as Bilis wrote she had to field more than a handful of questions about Deflategate and the quarterback’s guilt.
