Things to Know About Traveling on Labor Day Weekend
If you’re going away for the last long weekend of the summer, be sure to make your transportation plans (and know what to expect) ahead of time.
According to an AAA study, 34.7 million Americans are expected to travel during Labor Day this year. This is a 1.3 percent increase from last year. 29.7 million are expected to drive, and 2.65 million to fly.
Here are some helpful tips.
The roads:
-MassDOT will be suspending road and bridge construction on major roadways from Friday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. through Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 5 a.m.
-I-90 traffic will be heaviest Thursday and Friday headed westbound and Monday afternoon and evening headed eastbound.
-I-93 Southeast Expressway HOV lane will open at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
-All travel lanes on the Sagamore Bridge will be open.
-On Monday night, there will be free coffee at 18 service plazas along I-90 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

–RideWise smartphone app (real-time traffic information on I-93, sections of the Mass Turnpike, Route 3 and Route 6)
–Google Maps (also a smartphone app)
Other transportation:
-CapeFLYER train service from Boston to Cape Cod will be on a Saturday/Sunday schedule for the long weekend, including Monday. Visit their website for more information.
-On Monday, MBTA trains, buses, trolleys, and commuter rail trains will be on a Sunday schedule.
-Check Logan Airport’s website for flight schedules and possible delays.
