Every January, the automotive world descends upon Detroit for the annual North American International Auto Show, where industry pros, journalists, and auto enthusiasts check out the latest vehicle unveils.

This year, the debuts range from updates of existing models (see: the Audi A7, BMW i8, and Jeep Cherokee) to complete redesigns (see: the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500). There are also concept debuts, and while these vehicles are not ready for production, they show what cars could look like in the future. The real stars of this year’s show, however, are brawny pickup trucks and futuristic SUVs.
